Roaming profiles not updating server
The profile in use on the workstation has been changed quite a bit since the last time it updated the server copy, so I am reluctant to delete local profile and log in using the network based profile. As a rule, these users only log onto their own workstation and have no real need for a roaming profile. After you've done that, you can copy the my documents, favorites, and start menu folders over from the old local profile. I have already mapped "My Documents" (using active directory) for each user to \server\home\username.There are no problems with data contained within "My Documents".This problem resurfaced when I was trying to recover bookmarks in Firefox (through a "json" file).
My problem is that not all the user profiles update on the server all the time. What is the probable cause of the profiles not updating on the server? What solution would you recommend to alleviate the problem? Is there a way force the profile stored on the workstation to update the server stored copy? The files in the profile are copied in serial (one after another) and when the profile goes past 2000 files in total it starts to take a while.I have seen profiles that are only 30 MB but with 10,000 files, these take way to long to load. At times the profile is still locked in memory and won't unload and thus replicate. Family ID=1b286e6d-8912-4e18-b570-42470e2f3582&displaylang=en ). The Hive Profile Cleanup service is typically used on Terminal servers as they mostly are the users of Roaming Profiles. If you add a roaming profile location in AD, but then turn off roaming profiles on the client workstation, they *will not sync.* You have two choices: 1) Use roaming profiles to enable syncing, and use folder redirection to speed up logins.2) Don't use roaming profiles and accept that profile data will not sync. Managing Active Directory does not always have to be complicated.
